British Columbia has a diverse climate, landscape and product mix that supports over 3,000 local food and beverage producers. An exciting opportunity for B.C. producers is now available in Germany.
The Canadian Consulate in Düsseldorf is working on an ecommerce project to build a Canada-themed store-in-store under the roof of the German online supermarket MyEnso. Founded in 2018, MyEnso is an online supermarket with 25,000 food and non-food products of well-known international brands and private labels. The company has distribution centers throughout Germany with nationwide distribution and targets both end consumers and industries.
MyEnso is also working on a marketing concept to increase visibility of the website and expand the focus of this platform beyond food products to cosmetics and non-food products.
The Canadian Embassy is recruiting suitable partners for this project including Canadian producers looking to sell their wares throughout Germany. The store-in-store will showcase Canadian food and beverage products to German consumers. The project is part of a nationwide Taste of Canada campaign to promote Canadian products in Germany.
The Canadian store went live on June 17, 2020, giving German buyers time to stock up on their favourite Canadian products before the Fête Nationale celebration in Quebec in late June and Canada Day on July 1.
To be eligible to participate, interested Canadian market producers will need to ensure products comply with European and German labelling regulations. For this reason, MyEnso is focussing on products that are already on the market or imported by German and European dealers. Companies that do not already have products in those markets may still be eligible provided their products comply. MyEnso itself does not act as an importer but provides infrastructure in the form of the online shop and logistics. In addition to availability of goods, the companies must have an importer located in Germany or the European Union (or even have a representative office) that can clear the goods and be identified as an importer on the label.
