British Columbia (B.C.) is striving to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Two key components are to encourage electrification and switch to low-carbon fuels like green or blue hydrogen when it is produced with low carbon intensity. When hydrogen is burned or used in a fuel cell, it produces no carbon emissions. There is a lot of potential to use hydrogen for energy in transportation and producing low-carbon synthetic fuels. British Columbia is the first province to have a Hydrogen Strategy, part of the CleanBC Plan. With government, industry, and researchers working towards the same ambitious goal, B.C. will be a leader in the growing hydrogen economy.
Trade and Invest BC organized a mission of five hydrogen technology companies to participate in the China Hydrogen Fuel Cell 2021 (CHFE 2021) at Foshan, China, which comprises the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Hydrogen Industry Conference, and the 5th International Hydrogen Energy & Fuel Cell Technology and Product Expo. CHFE 2021 took place over three days from December 8-10, 2021, attracting over 10,000 visitors. The trade show exhibited products from the whole industry chain and attracted international delegations from Canada, the Netherlands, and Japan.
Working alongside the Canadian Consulate in Guangzhou, Trade and Invest BC led the delegation of B.C. companies that were represented by their in-market staff at the Canadian Pavilion. The B.C. companies exhibited at the trade show and presented at the Canada Hydrogen Energy Technology Conference. Furthermore, they participated in the B2B program organized by Trade and Invest BC and the Consulate General of Canada in Guangzhou.
