BC Businesses & International Trade Policy

Supporting trade and investment in BC

From supporting trade for British Columbia (B.C.) agrifood, forestry, and mining producers’ interests, to assisting with the procurement of firefighter axes or negotiating new trade rules for today’s modern economy, the Trade Policy and Negotiations team (TPN) at Trade and Invest BC does a lot to support B.C. businesses. TPN works behind the scenes to advance and defend B.C.’s interests in disputes and trade negotiations in domestic and international markets. TPN helps inform B.C. businesses on how to use free trade agreements (FTAs) to benefit their business and assists in resolving trade barriers they face.

The Trade Policy & Negotiations team at Trade & Invest BC welcomes input & comments on Canada’s upcoming international trade negotiations. Input you provide will help inform the Province’s objectives. Contact us today!

Staying connected with businesses across B.C.

Before the pandemic, over 1,300 individuals attended TPN’s in-person FTA events designed for B.C. businesses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, TPN went virtual, organizing webinars and interacting with B.C. businesses from a wide variety of sectors and regions around the Province. As of July 2021, over 1,680 virtual attendees attended the first 36 virtual-only activities. The webinars aim to help businesses leverage the benefits of FTAs, gain a competitive edge in international markets, lower production costs in Canada, and diversify export markets to help smooth post-COVID-19 economic recovery. These sessions support inclusive trade activities and cover Canada and B.C.’s international and domestic trade agreements, how businesses can claim preferential treatment under international FTAs, resources and trade services, and support to overcome trade barriers. Would you like to enquire about tariffs and export certificates, report a trade issue, or simply ask a question about B.C.’s international trade opportunities?  Contact us.
